Race Dates & History
The world-famous Monaco Grand Prix is known as Round 8 on the Formula 1 Calendar. It is held in June and will again be the focal point of the Grand Prix calendar on 04-07 June 2026. This city is no stranger to hosting car races. The first cars were known to race around the Principality of Monaco as early as 1929. The first race organised by Antony Noghes, a cigarette manufacturer, who collected his fellow members of the Automobile Club de Monaco for the inaugural race. This race formed part of the first year of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1950 and has remained part of the championship since 1950.
The Monaco Grand Prix circuit is world famous for being incredibly narrow while also being totally iconic, while remaining a challenge that all drivers love. This circuit is known to be a challenge to drivers by putting their skills to the test with its millimetre required accuracy. Overtaking on these streets is nearly impossible as shown by the 2003 Grand Prix which witnessed a total of 0 passing moves. Attending the Monaco Grand Prix is iconic! French is the official language spoken. Monaco is known as a tax haven for the worlds wealthy making it an all-round expensive location to visit. Luxury 5-star hotels can cost upwards of $1,500 per night but this increases incredibly to $25,000 per night during the Grand Prix weekend. Budget hotel options can start at around $380 per night outside of Grand Prix times but these locations are well booked in advance also experiencing a huge increase in price for the popular weekend. Budget accommodation options are available but require travel to and from the track from the French city of Nice.
Accessibility
Getting to the Principality is easy to access. While Monaco does not have its own airport, you can choose to fly in to Nice International Airport, take the train into the Monaco-Monte-Carlo station or drive along the A8 freeway into the city. With its 2km2 city radius, Monaco is easily accessible on foot.
